Lights, camera, action! Our family was invited to the red carpet movie premiere of Torey's Distraction by the Children's Craniofacial Association (C.C.A). Since L had his first soccer practice that same night, we had to divide and conquer. L, X, and T did the soccer thing and B, A, and I cruised up to the red carpet movie premiere. The girls and I got all dolled up, not really knowing what to expect, having never been to a fancy-dancy red carpet thing before. There was a pre-premiere party which wasn't really our thing (wine at a fancy club-like dentist office). We met the very nice director (didn't know it was the director at the time) and had our pictures taken on the red carpet! I felt like a fish out of water (I'm just a simple gal), so I forgot to whip my own camera out to take a picture, so just believe me when I say we walked on red carpet and had pictures taken. Then we got the best ever bag of M & Ms and soda (the more expensive the movie food the better it is. Really.), and hunkered down to watch the movie.
What an outstanding movie! Torey's Distraction is about 3 young ladies who have Apert Syndrome (what B. has). The director followed them, especially Torey, for over 10 years showing the ups and downs of surgery after surgery, bill after bill, and change after change for these girls and their families. There were happy moments, sad moments, shocking moments (showed a bit of the midface surgery), informative moments, heart-wrenching moments, and heart-warming moments. The girls loved it and so did I! Emily, one of the girls in movie, looked a bit like B, so B. had people ask if she was her.
The hopes of this movie was to use the power of film to raise awareness of other's and their needs and to raise funds to help children with Apert Syndrome get proper medical care, as well as help with research for advances in treatment. I guess it's a fairly new concept called filManthropy. Very cool if you ask me.
Anyway, there will be more screenings of the movie. Check out the website to learn more: www.toreysdistraction.com.
L's soccer was fun. He was a happy little guy flitting around, kicking the ball now and then. I can't wait to see him myself!
