We had a Visiting Teaching Mystery in our ward a few days ago. I wanted something different than the normal program of telling ladies they need to visit their ladies. Everyone needed to be involved, so this is what we did. Think Murder Mystery party, except minus the murder and put in visiting teaching instead. A Visit happened to a lady and everyone in the small group had to piece together the clues to figure out which two ladies in their group made The Visit.
(Visiting Teaching is a program in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where every lady in the ward, or congregation has two ladies who visit her regularly, seeing how she is doing, sharing a message about Jesus Christ, and helping her in anyway they can whether it's through friendship, or helping with a ride to a doctor's appointment, helping with a move, or bringing in a meal if she's sick--anyway they can help. They are there. It's really awesome. )
The Mystery Evening was themed in Black and White
with the decor being Black and White as well as the refreshments.
Oh, my! Delicious, delicious goodies.
I could have hung out here all night!
Many, many ladies helped make the evening a success,
and I think everyone had a fun time.
The invitation flyer a wonderful lady created.
We had ladies at tables in groups of 7-8 with a host who led everyone through the events. The host also played the character "Julie," who was the lady Visited.
Each lady in the group received her "Top Secret" packet with the character she would be playing.
Each character received a brochure which allowed her to open
only the flap she needed for each Round--so as not to reveal too much info!
Round 1 began with The Introduction where each character introduced herself. The characters ranged from a social media guru to the Queen of Crafty, a stay-at-home-mom to a seasoned grandma, a new-to-Relief Society young woman to a busy, working lady--all types of ladies.
And so the Mystery proceeded with The Visit from the Visiting Teachers happening and each character talking about what she had been up to lately (perhaps Visiting??). Then a Confession of her true feelings about visiting teaching.
Each character revealed different pieces of Evidence such as a calendar with appointments (any visiting teaching appointments?), or a Visiting Teaching message, or a visiting teaching assignment slip, or a Relief Society bookmark.
And lastly, the Final Clue to reveal the true visitors...
or not.
Then we wrapped it up with The Reveal and what Visiting Teaching really is--caring for each other.
