National Junior Honor Society and Snow

Xman has had a doozie of a year so far. The end of January he was diagnosed with mono which has really messed around with his energy level and body.  He has missed quite a bit of school, but has worked diligently on getting make-up work done even while feeling poorly.  Throughout all the doctors' visits, blood draws, and tests, he has remained a kind and sweet guy, working on not being discouraged for feeling yucky for SOOOO long. 

So when he was nominated to the National Junior Honor Society, we were thrilled. You need a 94% grade point average as well as good character and a commitment to serve your community. Xman is still recovering from his illness, but we are looking forward to summertime where we can just focus on getting him all the way better!

I went to visit my sister this past week.  She lives on top of a mountain! This is the view from her kitchen window.

Snowball, anyone??!

The last day I was there it snowed!  I started the morning with snow and ended the day back home where it was hot and humid. 

I'm so glad I could visit my sister and her kiddos. They've had a doozie of a year too and are working to make life happy again.  

Piano Maestro!

L. had his piano recital this weekend and played beautifully, his fingers just flew across those keys.  He has really taken to piano, sitting down to practice every day on his own without any reminders. He works and works and works on the piano pieces until he has figured it out. He especially likes music that is fast!  Sadly, band is coming next year and L. might not have time for both. We shall see.

His piano teacher awarded him a trophy for being so dedicated to his music and practicing every week! 

Future Farmer--it runs in the family

Miss B. joined FFA (Future Farmers of America) this year in high school. She did not raise an animal (and I am NOT complaining as we aren't really animal people), but she went to every meeting and participated in the fun games and helped drink the soda and eat the snacks provided.  At the end-of-year banquet, she was awarded The Green Hand award for participating for the year.

I never knew we had farming in the blood until T informed me that he can sometimes be referred to as "Farmer T" since he grew up on a farm. Say what?!  He reminds me he lived on a farm until he was 5, although he has very little memory of it and didn't drive a tractor or wear overalls.

We are super proud of B. for trying out a new club. The student officers were very impressive with their leadership abilities and kindness, especially one girl who always included B in the meeting activities.

National Honor Society, Getting a little Nerdy, and Mother's Day flowers!

 A. was inducted into her high school's chapter of the National Honor Society which honors academics, character, leadership, and service. She makes us look like great parents, but it's her hard work and studying along with her kindness that got her here. I can honestly and proudly say: My children are smarter than me!

 L. had character day at his school. His class decided to dress up as different characters from a book they had been reading together in class. He chose Will, the nerd. Yes, he borrowed my glasses and my favorite socks! Glad I could add to his nerd attire. 

B. brought home these lovely flowers she had arranged in her floral arranging class. She made them for Mother's Day. I love them!  And her.
