I really LOVE when the kiddos have a day off from school. I don't think I always looked forward to it as much as I do now. At times I looked forward to the days they were IN school. Maybe it's because they're older and pretty much take care of their own basic needs (eat, brush teeth, bathe, walk). Maybe because it's a day of no running around and no homework and no seminary driving. Maybe it's because I can enjoy them all without constantly watching for someone to toddle into mud, the street, some stranger. Maybe it's because one of them cooked up a yummy batch of DONUTS! Whatever the reason, I really had fun with the kiddos on their day off.
Donut QUEEN! A. hearts donuts--A LOT!
Thankfully, she shared.
Miss B. climbing the rock wall.
This was a fun playground. We ran around, playing Progressive Tag--once you're tagged you become "it" also, until everyone is tagged and "it."
X-man trying out his wings--backwards.
X-man, A, L, and B ready for take off.
We shot L's stomp rocket.
We weren't playing according to the safety instructions, so L had to get VERY stern with us. I'm glad he likes to follow the rules. We played a little basketball and then finally the wind blew us in. It was really windy! I'm glad the girls still like to play with us. I hope it'll always be that way.
Oh, my! I never thought the day would come when I would have a full-blown Scouter in my house. We do (Cub/Boys) Scouts for the good values it can teach: goal setting, love of country and God, service, skills, but I can't say we are true full-blown Scouters. Not by a long shot. We can't tie knots only our shoes. And we don't camp. I mean I'll NEVER wear Scout socks and I don't feel very fetching in the brown Scout shirt. Now the boys look cute in their blue Scout shirt. Well, Mr. L has caught the vision or the fire of Scouting. He earned his Bobcat rank and is eagerly on the way to earning his Wolf. He asks me OFTEN to do something in his book. I'm glad he's so excited.
L. with his 1st patch--Bobcat--for Cub Scouts.
X-man earned his Bear patch too!
He and I have gotten to be in den meetings together. It's been lots of fun to be with him!
Then for the rest of the Pack meeting, the Cubmaster had the boys "invent" a rocket to protect their astronaut (egg) using various materials. The boys really got into this. Siblings could help, so the girls pitched in their ideas.
The girls coordinate with other Young Women to wear their shirts to school and remind each other to "Stand in Holy Places." I love that.
X-man and the girls' rocket launch.
The astronaut survived though we feared the worst when we heard a CRUNCH at landing!
L and a fellow Wolf Scout watch their rocket launch.
They had such fun coming up with their rocket.
The astronaut survived!
Now to go sew on the new patches. ERRRR...not a favorite past time of mine. Totally a man's idea, these patches, because he never had to sew them on!
